As-salaam Alaikum
We were thinking to keep this name: Ayaan/Ayan/Ayyan/Aayan. but after doing some research not only online but in the Quran this is what we found out; Quoted from Quran, according to Quran Surah # 79 Ayat 42 "They ask you about the hour:When will it come?",
Quoted from Quran; Surah 75 Ayat 6; "He questions:When will this day of Resurrection be?"
We didnt find anywhere where it would say that it means:God's gifts except online.(i consider web info to be true only 50% of the time) again its my online opinion
So my educated brother and their sisters use your knowledgeable skills to examine that in the above Surah the name Ayaan/Ayan/Ayyan/Aayan. means= When.
We would have kept this name if it would have meant Gods gift. cuz i have my faith in my God which is Allah.. and i would care less abt this name being cross cultural. so see what you believe in and understand and may Allah guide you to the right and help you wid ur decision.Wasalaam

Guys, my son's name is Aayaan meaning God's gift...written alif ain ya alif noon... (pronouned like aamir or Aazaan). However, when you refer to quran eg. surah 75 ayat 6 or surah 79 Ayat 42, that word is Ayaana (pronounced like aiiyana) or alif ya alif noon alif which means day or ressurection. Also for people who are concerned that its a girls name meaning 'lucky'; that name is pronounced ayaan (ai sound like 'Taiwan w/o the T)

A'kum,
I have named my Boy Aayan. (Aen, Alif, Ye, Alif, Noon) and when I was searching for names during my wife's pregnancy this name caught my eyes.
The moment I told my wife about it, she instantly liked it. Many other names were discussed with family members, but everytime this name seemed the best.
I agree to one of the brothers who said that one keeps the name following one's own religion and faith and if that name fits in the scheme of things, then we should go ahead with it.
Ofcourse, children and everything else in this world is given to us by Allah (SWT) but when it is termed as a GIFT, you can well imagine the worth of it.
We as parents gives/provide everything to our children when they demand/or need it. But when we give on special occasions as a Gift, the value of it grows manyfold and in the same way when Allah (SWT) is giving something/someone as a Gift, imagine the worth of it. It will be very precious and free from all bad things around.
And then it is our responsibility as to how we nurture this 'gift' so that in ther Aakhirat when Allah (SWT) asks us what have we done with His Gift we can take a pride and say that we nurtured it in the way that the servant of Allah (SWT) should have been nurtured.
Since we all believe that Islam was the 1st religion in this world then all meanings of this Islamic Name (positive or negative) must have come later (and manhandled in some cases).
May Allah (SWT) gives us guidance and keeps us all away from sin. (Ameen). Allah hafiz, Danish

Aoa to all, I'm a mother of a soon to be 2 year old. We had decided to name our son Ahsan when I was pregnant because we fell in love with the meaning of the name 'gift of god' as shown in many of the sites. But when we researched on the name and cross referenced it in the Quran as it appears in surah naziaat ayah 42 and surah qiyamah ayah 6 we found out that it actually means 'from God' or to 'come' and that too with reference to the day of resurrection in a negative connotation .It is used in a similar manner in verse 65 of surah naml
...42. يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا They ask you about the hour, when it will come. (surah naziaat) 6. يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ He asks: When is the day of resurrection? (surah Qiyamah)
Eventually we decided we to seek help from someone learned. We contacted a couple of people. A maulvi Sahab and a language expert. Both of them advised us against naming our son ayaan. Also it is forbidden to give a name which relates to any pagan god or deity and i found out that Ayaan is the name of a Hindu God...

Compelled to add my 2 pennies worth. If the name is a Muslim name and is Quran (I say if as I don't know for sure) then surely it is ok to keep even if it as connotations in other cultures/religions as we don't believe in any other religion as we are Muslim?! Anyway that was logical to me but everyone has their own views.
