Hi. I am looking for the meaning of the name aayan. I understand it's spelled aliph aiyn ya aliph noon. Some people say it's got a negative meaning, but from what I have heard, it's either "God's gift" or "notable person". Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,
I have recently had a baby boy and was seriously thinking about keeping this name.
Being a Muslim I consulted a number of imams and they advised me against the name. Whilst I did not have an oppoortunity to ask them to elaborate the reasons for this, I later found out that the name is cross-cultural.
The name Aayan being cross-cultural alone is not a big issue, however, if you are a Muslim, then it essential that the name should not have any reference to a god from any other faith. So, I decided to look for another name...
Here are the meanings of the name:
1. Hindu/Tamil: Brahma, the God of Creation 2. Sanskrit: Soaked in the Divine (as in Satyanarayan) 3. Biblical: Motion, To Arrive (related to Noah); Iian, which is pronounced like Ayan, is the Scottish variation of John 4. Hebrew: Nothingness, Peace 5. Persian: Notable 6. Islam/Arabic: God’s Gift 7. Several African Languages: Center Part of the Soul.
Hope this helps.
Mo

Salaam / Hi Folks
My husband and i found the name Aayan very early in our pregnancy. It was the only name that caught our attention because the meaning was so fitting: God's Gift. We thought that we would never be able to have children, and then were wonderfully suprised to find out that i was pregnant. Also, my husband and I search for names seperately and strangely enough came home with the same name.
With one week to go before the baby is born I was shocked and dissappointed to find out that the name Aayan was viewed negatively by some.
However, i still feel that the original attraction to the name, believing that it meant God's Gift, and that it was so fitting for our situation is enough.
At least none of the other language meanings of Aayan are negative.
Thanks Rushda

Well... dear Brother and sisters.. I have seen all threads being posted on this website on disputed name AAYAN... well I have named my baby boy also Aayan born on 28th dec 2007 and somebody told me that it is also in QURAN.. When someone highlighted that it is a hindu name too .. i searched this name in quran and found in AAYAT 42 of 2nd Surah of 30th Para of Quran.. and when try to get the meaning.. it seems to have meaning "from Allah'.. although its refered everywhere as gift of God.. well I am going to consult some of my Saudian fellows also on that to confirm its efficacy...

Dear Friends, I have a son and was born after 3 continious loss of pregncy. Guess what his name is AAYAN (GIFT FROM ALLAH) and indeed he is true gift.
There would be a lot of words that may have been attribute to Gods of other religion which we may never know. In our heart (our niyat) was to name him Aayan becoz its gesture of thanking Allah so that it.

AOA if we are only looking for the word Aayan in Quran, i think it is mentioned at couple of other places as well (eg Ayat6 of Surat Qayamat (#75) and i donot think that in these ayat the context is gift of God, probably it is to come or happen.
