Hello everyone, I've been trying to study arabic for the last year as my fiancee is Palestinian and i would love to communicate more with his grandmother. unfortunately with each book i buy or study from the dialects are different and his grandmother has a hard time understanding me. She says that its "Quran based"...would anyone know the proper name for the arabic dialect common in palestine?
thank you -Robin

Hi Robin, Can't your fiance answer this question for you? If for some reason not, just take a college-level arabic class, as it would be formal arabic, which is probably closest to Quran-based. If there's a particular dialect that was used in the Palestine region, your fiance should know. I know some Palestinian brothers, but their way of speaking is definitely not Quran-based. It's kind of slangy. Then again, they lived most of their lives in Jordan, not Palestine. And all I can tell you, is instead of using "i" in written transliteration they use "ee" or "y." Best of luck! Lily
